As we dive deeper into our LETRS training and knowledge, we continue to realize the importance of putting decodable texts and passages in the hands of our Firsties. Decodable texts help our students strengthen and develop their word recognition. They give our students the opportunity to build basic foundational reading skills by focusing on phonics and decoding strategies. The texts are controlled for a specific phonics pattern while reviewing previously learned patterns. In short, decodable texts give our students practice with the spelling pattern they are working to master. We try to put a book or passage in the hands of our students daily. As you can imagine, we are always looking for ways to enrich this practice and excite our students. The Hello Literacy decodables would be a great addition to what we are using. We love that they have fiction and nonfiction titles. Our Firsties would certainly benefit from having these in our classroom for small group, independent, and home reading.
