Description
The science big books are an integral teaching tool for our life sciences standards. We use the books to validate what we know as well as find information that is new to us. The information we gather is used throughout the animal unit and across the subject areas.
Success of Program
Students are able to answer daily questions about our animal studies. They also incorporate their knowledge into their art work. We have had success with this series for over 15 years which is why we want to keep this set alive!
Implementation
Science big books are generally used during whole group direct instruction. We gather facts from the books to create posters and to validate our prior knowledge. The large format is engaging and prompts conversation and curiosity.
Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?
Our PLC is working toward the new common core standards. The big books, with their large format, help us reach our standards regarding concepts of print because they are easy for all to see. It is easy to use them to point out the author and to begin to understand a table of contents.
