Description

This grant seeks to purchase new hands free- headset microphone sets for the Truckee Elementary Stage. Truckee Elementary is interested in expanding application of learning through class, grade level, and school performances. Additionally we are seeking one more speaker and microphone transmitter.

Benefits of Program

Class musicals and school performances offer a wide range of benefits that positively impact students' development. These performances encourage creativity and self-expression, allowing students to explore their talents in acting, singing, dancing, and stage production. They also help build confidence as students overcome stage fright and perform in front of an audience. Collaborative work in rehearsals fosters teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills as students work together to create a cohesive production. Additionally, school performances can enhance public speaking and presentation abilities, important skills that extend beyond the classroom. Beyond the personal growth they offer, musicals and performances also foster a sense of school spirit and community, bringing students, teachers, and families together to celebrate the collective effort and creativity of the students. Headset microphones provide clearer, more consistent sound quality, as they stay in place near the speaker’s mouth, minimizing background noise and ensuring that the voice is always captured clearly, even during movement. They also tend to be more comfortable for long periods of use compared to handheld mics, offering a lightweight design that doesn’t strain the user. Furthermore, headset microphones are typically discreet, allowing the speaker to maintain a natural presence and focus on their audience or performance without worrying about microphone handling.

Mr. Mora has done an amazing job already making a rolling audio cart that can go around campus. This is currently used outside on the playground, in the cafeteria, and on the stage. While his cart is being used on the stage in preparation for a show or performance, we are finding that a smaller speaker is still needed during recess activities or in the cafeteria for SEL support with behavior while all grades rotate through this common space in a short amount of time. Audio support on the playground and in the cafeteria provides several key benefits, particularly in terms of communication, safety, and inclusion. In the playground, audio systems can help teachers and staff communicate more effectively with students, especially in large, noisy areas. They allow for clear announcements, such as reminders, safety instructions, or emergency alerts, ensuring that students are always informed. In the cafeteria, audio support can be used to manage the flow of students, announce lunch choices, or alert students to important information like special events or reminders. Additionally, audio systems help create a more inclusive environment for students with hearing impairments by providing auditory cues that support their participation. Overall, audio support enhances safety, fosters communication, and ensures that all students have equal access to important information.

Success of Program

Feedback from students, teachers, and performers about the effectiveness of the microphones would also be valuable in assessing their impact on future performances. The purchase of microphones for school performances would be evaluated based on several key factors to ensure they meet the needs of the school and enhance the quality of the performances. First, sound quality is crucial—microphones should provide clear, crisp audio that ensures all voices and instruments can be heard clearly by the audience, regardless of the performance's size or venue. Next, durability and reliability are important, as the equipment needs to withstand frequent use and potential handling by students. Ease of use and setup would also be evaluated, as the microphones should be user-friendly for students and staff, with minimal technical knowledge required for operation. Cost-effectiveness is another factor, balancing the initial investment with the long-term benefits the microphones will bring to the school's performances. Finally, compatibility with existing equipment should be considered to ensure the microphones integrate smoothly into the school’s audio system.

Implementation

Mr. Mora currently has made a rolling audio cart to supply TES with the audio needs. Mr. Mora will set up the new audio equipment, manage the maintenance, storage, and support teacher use. These audio tools will be used for class shows, grade level performances, school events, and playground and cafeteria use throughout the school year as needed by staff.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

This grant will be impact all students at Truckee Elementary through the increase in effective communication in common areas for daily use and special performances. All teachers will have access to this equipment if needed.

Sustainability
These microphones will not need additional funding to maintain their effective use. Maintaining school microphones and speakers involves regular checks and proper care to ensure their longevity and optimal performance. First, the microphones will be cleaned after use to prevent dirt, moisture, and buildup that can affect sound quality. Cables and connections should be inspected periodically for wear and tear and to avoid malfunction. For wireless microphones, batteries should be checked and replaced as needed, and the equipment should be stored in a safe, dry place to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures or humidity. Speakers will be cleaned regularly, with dusting and checking the audio system for any feedback or distortion. Additionally, school staff will be trained in basic troubleshooting and maintenance to handle minor issues quickly and effectively if they need to use these audio tools. Proper maintenance ensures that microphones and speakers continue to enhance school performances without disruptions. No additional purchases should need to be made other than purchasing batteries, which can be supplied by TES.
