Description

This multiple school grant for Kings Beach Elementary and Tahoe Lake Elementary is designed to enhance the mathematical thinking of our 3-5th grade elementary students. Math center materials will be purchased to engage students in being more mathematical and creative thinkers. While using the 8 Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practices for Classrooms along with the engaging math games, students will have the opportunity to work together to develop and build their understanding of how to solve math problems creatively.

Benefits of Program

At Kings Beach Elementary and Tahoe Lake Elementary, students have access to flexible math enrichment groups in grades 3-5 during accelerated learning time.

Success of Program

Success will be evident by student engagement with the math materials and as a result we hope to see more students able to think about math creatively and flexibly. When you walk into the classroom while materials are in use, you will see students discussing their strategies and sharing their way of thinking with their peers. This will enhance the current accelerated learning curriculum by providing more opportunities for students to interact with each other while learning mathematical practices.

Implementation

The grant will be implemented in the 2024/25 school year at both KBE and TLE sites and be in use throughout the entire school year. As the Accelerated Learning Teacher for both sites, I coordinate with grade level teams to provide math enrichment groups access to accelerated learning services.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Yes, access to materials will be shared with grades levels 3-5 at TLE and KBE.

Sustainability
If funded, all materials intended to purchase from this grant are non-consumable and are sustainable for use over many years. In my role as the Accelerated Learning Teacher for two sites, I am able to facilitate the use of the math center games and make sure the materials are accounted for, so that they can be utilized and enjoyed over many years.

Notes

Thank you for your consideration of this grant. TTUSD created the Accelerated Learning Teacher position for our lakeside elementary schools in December 2022. With the support of this grant materials will provide more support to build up the enrichment materials at our lakeside elementary sites.
