Description

Forward Education is dedicated to promoting environmental stewardship and climate action among students, empowering them with the knowledge and tools necessary to address pressing environmental challenges. We propose obtaining Climate Action Kits from Forward Education to enhance our educational programs and promote sustainable practices within our school community.

This grant seeks funding to procure Climate Action Kits from Forward Education and Micro Bits. These kits are comprehensive educational resources designed to engage students in hands-on learning experiences related to climate change, renewable energy, waste reduction, and sustainable living practices. Each kit contains interactive materials, experiments, and curriculum guides aligned with educational standards, making it an invaluable resource for educators seeking to incorporate environmental education into their curriculum.

Benefits of Program
  • Educational Enhancement: The Climate Action Kits will enrich our existing science curriculum by providing engaging, experiential learning opportunities that deepen students' understanding of climate science and sustainability.
  • Empowerment: By equipping students with knowledge and skills to address climate change, we empower them to become environmental advocates and agents of change within their communities.
  • Hands-On Learning: The hands-on activities included in the kits foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, preparing students for real-world challenges.
  • Environmental Awareness: Through the exploration of topics such as renewable energy, carbon footprint reduction, and waste management, students will develop a heightened awareness of environmental issues and their role in addressing them.
Success of Program

Success of the program will be assessed through both qualitative and quantitative measures:

  • Pre- and post-assessments: Students will complete surveys or assessments before and after engaging with the Climate Action Kits to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to climate action.
  • Observations: Educators will observe student engagement, participation, and understanding during hands-on activities and discussions facilitated by the Climate Action Kits.
  • Student Projects: Students will be encouraged to undertake individual or group projects related to climate action, with their progress and outcomes serving as indicators of program effectiveness.

Implementation

Upon receiving the Climate Action Kits, the following steps will be taken to implement the program effectively:

  1. Curriculum Integration: The activities and resources provided in the kits will be incorporated into science lessons, project-based learning units, and environmental clubs.
  2. Student Engagement: Students will actively participate in hands-on experiments, discussions, and projects facilitated by the Climate Action Kits, fostering a deeper understanding of climate science and sustainability.
  3. Community Engagement: The program will extend beyond the classroom, involving families and community members through outreach events, workshops, and collaborative projects focused on climate action and environmental stewardship.
  4. Climate Action Kits in action
Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Heidi Bushway Verkler from North Tahoe School is also writing a grant for her STEAM elective class. We went to the CUE Spring Conference and talked directly with Forward Education about the benefits steaming with the Climate Action Kits.

These materials were chosen to target the application of STEAM in the 6th grade classroom.  If another teacher would want to use them to support their standards or science lesson, I would be happy to share.

Sustainability
This project is a one time purchase. All materials are reusable from year to year. There may be a need for refill purchase, but I believe that I would be able to get those costs covered by my ACES budget.
