The Math Department at North Tahoe High School requests a grant to purchase TI-84 CE Plus Graphing Calculators
Calculators with graphing capabilities are a requirement for success in higher math. Students enrolled in AP Calculus or AP Pre-calculus, for example, cannot successfully complete their exam without the aid of a graphing calculator. Students at all levels of secondary math need to be exposed to and have opportunities to use a graphing calculator in the classroom setting. We expect that students will better understand how to use a graphing calculator by the time they reach the higher level classes, which will free up class time to devote to learning the actual math content.
The success of the program will be measured by the number of students who feel comfortable utilizing a graphing calculator for solving problems prior to reaching AP Pre-calculus.
Each student in AP Calculus and AP Pre-calculus will have a graphing calculator checked out to them personally. Every Integrated Math 2 and Integrated Math 3 classroom will have a class set of graphing calculators in the classroom for use in class.
Yes, the calculators will be shared across the math department.
