One of the main content standards for 4th grade is: 4.2 Students describe the social, political, cultural, and economic life and interactions among people of California from the pre-Columbian societies to the Spanish mission and Mexican rancho periods. During this unit of study students learn about the influence of the Spanish missions. This grant would fund grade level books specific to the Spanish missions in California.
Students will benefit from reading and researching content about the Spanish missions in California. Students will use this information to gain knowledge and describe the social, political, cultural, and economic life and interactions among people of California from the pre-Columbian societies to the Spanish mission. All fourth grade students will benefit from this grant by reading the books. The California Missions book set covers all 21 missions the Spanish founded in California and provide in-depth and comprehensive grade level appropriate content.
Success from the grant will be defined by students' meeting language standards through academic discourse and culminating in final essays. The books will enhance the curriculum by providing reading about the content.
The students will use these books as reference material for their project essays. Each 4th grade classroom will have one set of California Mission which contains 21 books. They will read the content books to gain knowledge to have academic discourse and write essays.
