Description

The objective of using listening centers is to improve ELA skills and to emphasize the enjoyment of reading.  Effective literacy centers provide opportunities for students to access quality literature, no matter what their reading level.  They are multi-sensory and help meet the diverse range of student interests and ability levels.  Listening centers very effective when used as a station, allowing the classroom teacher to do small-group instruction, while providing meaningful learning to the listeners.  The use of literacy centers creates the structure to deliver differentiated instruction.  Students listen to a fluent reader read a story as they follow along with a copy of the story.  This improves both reading comprehension and reading fluency.

Success of Program

The success of listening centers can be measured by increased fluency and reading comprehension, as is measured in common district assessments and Common Core state assessments.
