ELD students will be able to practice reading fluency by recording their voices. Students will also be able to create presentations which will be recorded (video and audio) to evaluate fluency, vocabulary and speaking skills. As per California State ELD standards, students will develop oral communication that allows for social and academic conversations using consistant English grammatical forms and sounds.
Using the MacBook Pro and iPod Touches, a baseline recording will be created for each student. Subsequent recordings will be added and evaluated throughout the school year to determine student progress in becoming a fluent English language learner. Further evaluation will occur with the CELDT, which is administered at the beginning of each school year.
ELD students will use iPod Touches to (1) record themselves reading text (2) record in pairs, or small groups, visually communicating a variety of subjects and texts (3) record presentations that involve research, in front of the whole class (4) work with a variety of apps, such as speech-to-text to create written documents on a variety of topics (5) access a variety of interactive texts, such as eBooks, etc. All audio recordings, video and written documents will be archieved on the MacBook Pro.
My ELD PLC focuses on Listening and Speaking, Reading and Writing, with a further focus on preparing students for the CELDT.
