Students in 6th grade throughout TTUSD are all 1/1 chromebooks. Often there are assignments given in class that require students to watch videos or read and annotate articles online. Several of our online based programs enable students to utilize equal access tools such as text to speech in order to understand and annotate articles or required reading. While some students bring their own earbuds or headphones, many students would benefit from having a class set of noise cancelling headphones. Additionally, in the nature of our collaboratively engaging classrooms, noise cancelling headphones would be a valuable tool to increase student achievement. While one group may be working together, another group of students may be working independently. When this happens, students who are working independently would benefit from noise cancelling headphones so that they can stay focused on their own task.
The benefits this grant would provide are numerous. Our students use headphones during state testing and also throughout the school year on an almost daily basis. Also, because of the many diverse learning styles that embody a school, students who require a quiet learning environment, along with all students, will deeply benefit from this program by focusing on their tasks versus what others are doing around them.
The success of this program will be determined by the increased use of equal access tools like text to speech as well as through increased focus on tasks in the classroom when students are engaged in a variety of activities at one time. All students will have access to the headphones. The higher quality of the headphones will allow students to focus on their tasks rather than dealing with headphones that don't work well.
The program's implementation will begin as soon as headphones are received. Students use headphones on weekly basis in some capacity.
Yes, if there are other teachers who are in need of headphones, I am always willing to share.
While these were found for slightly cheaper through Amazon, I could only order 3 sets of headphones at a time through them.
