KIN-BALL® sport is played with a lightweight, 2 lb. Omnikin ball that is four feet in diameter. Kin-ball claims to be the only organized cooperative sport in the world, which is now played in 30 countries. It is played with three teams of four players on a surface around 60' per 60'. The goal of the game to catch and control the ball before it touches the ground. Points are given when a team commits a fault such as dropping the ball. Beside the fun of playing, KIN-BALL® sport is growing as an organized cooperative sport that is played in 30 countries. The cooperative nature allows for differentiation and promotes success with a wide range of athletic skill levels. It is used in programs to fight childhood obesity and bullying in schools.
Just imagine the fun that can be had with an oversized ball that is lightweight, soft, approachable, and durable! Students in grades K-5 will all be able to participate in KIN_BALL specific games as well as other team building activities during PE classes. It can be used in the gym and also out on the snow during the winter months. The Kin-Ball starter pack includes the ball, an inflator, and a spare bladder.
Please look at the videos on the attached links to see how students of all ages can enjoy games based off of the Omnikin ball.
The ability to incorporate more team building activities into the PE curriculum with new and exciting supplies can only be a bonus. The KIN-BALL is mentioned frequently at PE conferences and in online blogs that highlight new game ideas. It seems as though there is so much possibility with regard to playing “tried and true” games, in addition to developing new games with the Omnikin ball. Having all students feel comfortable with engaging in a sport with a large inflatable and friendly ball would allow for further levels of differentiation within group games.
I envision using the Kin Ball throughout the year with all age groups, K-5. It could be used in the beginning of the year for team building activities, as well as for periodic lessons to focus on sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the year. I also like the idea that it could be used in the gym, as well as outside on the snow for alternative game based training activities during the winter on Nordic skis and snowshoes.
Yes! Every student in the school would be able to take part in activities with the Omnikin ball. If core teachers would like to use the ball for activities outside of specific PE classes for team building activities, they will have access and the option to extend learning in many ways.
There is not enough money in the PE budget to cover items other than replacement supplies. Having Excellence in Education funds to bring this new program to PE would be very much appreciated!
Thank you for considering this proposal. Sportsmanship and teamwork activities are an important part of the PE focus at Donner Trail Elementary. An Omnikin ball would provide fresh new ways to combine fun, learning, and play in the group setting.
