Description

We are in need of read alouds and hands on activities to support our Science themes in second grade. There is more and more digital content out there for the second grade standards, but after the experiences of the pandemic, we would like to teach with "less tech" and create more opportunities for student to student interaction. We are finding that we don't have enough physical books and hands-on activities for our themes.

Benefits of Program

These hands on science materials and books will help us align our lessons and content instruction across second grade. We will specifically use these materials to support language development, academic discourse skills, and foster meaningful student to student interactions. This is a focus of TTUSD right now, and for KBE it works for both Learning English and Spanish.

Success of Program

We will have the opportunity to talk about these common lessons and how well they work as part of our Plan Do Study Act cycles for academic discourse. By planning together and using the same materials our team will work together to improve our instruction in Science and Social Studies, while also teaching the skills of academic discourse. The benefit to students is better understanding of the content as well as improved language and communication skills.

Implementation

Materials will be purchased as soon as possible and incorporated into next year's planning. We will meet in the summer to plan for the themes.
