I am requesting a subscription for every third grader to receive the Scholastic magazine "¿Qué Tal?" Students would receive 6 issues in print throughout the school year.

Benefits of Program
The magazine format would be a way to reach all Spanish reading levels, some might not access all vocabulary but there will be visual support. Higher level readers will expand vocabulary. Students at KBE lack access to entertaining, Spanish reading that captivates them. All levels will be exposed to the Spanish speaking world through engaging articles, not just translated works.
Success of Program
The program should increase Spanish literacy with our students by using engaging, current event articles in a fun magazine format. The success will be measured by student engagement and enjoyment during the reading and writing lessons involving the magazines. Students will also be able to dive deeper in topics from the magazines via online resources connected.
Implementation
Six issues of the magazine will be distributed throughout the school year. Upon receipt of the new issue the grade level team will create a one week reading a writing mini lesson for the issue. The reading and writing associated with the articles will happen during Spanish Language Arts time.

This grant will serve the entire grade level.
Sustainability
This grant would be a trial for one year. Depending on the success of the magazines there would be an opportunity to keep the copies for future years or attempt to secure funding from donors or as a grade level to purchase the new issues every year. There is also an opportunity to continue this in higher grades with a higher level Spanish magazine also offered by Scholastic. We could use class funds if we feel it is a worthwhile program that is enriching student's exposure to culturally relevant Spanish from across the globe.
