TLE is continuing to refine our reading intervention program based on what we have learned about the science of reading via professional development with Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading (LETRS). Every grade level has 30 minutes a day of 'What I Need' time (WIN) that allows for all students to receive differentiated instruction in reading with a teacher or Enhancement Paraprofessional. We are building a library of materials that can be used for differentiated instruction during WIN and are hoping to add these decodable readers to it.
Research and our experience has shown that beginning readers benefit from targeted and systematic instruction in phonics to support development of word recognition, spelling, and overall reading comprehension. Adding to our resources will help provide effective instruction to help all our students read at grade level and beyond.
Student progress in reading is monitored a minimum of three times a year. Additionally, all PLCs 'test' effective instruction and resources via the PDSA cycle.
Teachers and Enhancement Paraprofessionals will us the additional literacy resources to support targeted instruction during WIN time each day.
Materials will be shared across all grade levels to meet identified needs of our learners during differentiated instruction (WIN time).
