Just Right Spanish Kindergarten decodables target two and three syllable words and blends to engage students in authentic reading experiences from the start. Just Right Readers developers worked with leading literacy experts to develop a phonics progression specific to the Spanish language. Perfect for small group instruction and independent reading, our decodables offer structured phonics practice that leads to reading success for every student.
“Humankind’s most precious treasure is our children, and our future depends on them. We recognize literacy as a fundamental human right that empowers individuals in a society” (The Reading League)
Kings Beach Elementary is a Two Way Bilingual Immersion Language school. Our emergent multilingual learners and readers will benefit from this grant. The layout of the texts are similar to that of our direct explicit instruction; therefore it will directly benefit all learners. There are clear visual cues of individual sounds (dots), syllable blends (stars) and arrows pointing toward the direction of reading. Although there are other decodable books on the market, Just Right Readers are unique because they do not follow predictable sentence format. This allows students to decode the text using sounds learned and not relying on predictable sentence structures; which may lead to memorization vs. reading.
The success of the program will be measured through grade level DIBELS and Lectura benchmark and routine progress assessments. The success of the program will also be measured daily/weekly in the classroom setting by the general education teacher. The Just Right Readers complement our current explicit reading instruction programs Camino and Heggerty en Español. In addition, having a variety of titles will enhance student access to a variety of stories.
This set of Just Right Decodable Readers will complement our daily reading instruction. Each Kindergarten student has a Literacy book box which contains reading instruction essentials. These readers will be instantly added to the box and emergent readers will have access to them during explicit reading instruction and leisure time.
Unfortunately, this is a grant that we are unable to share. We are requesting a set for each Kindergarten classroom. Each set has one book of 66 different titles. We anticipate that each classroom student will have 2-3 of each title at any one time.
