Kilty Highfill
The primary goal of this grant request is to provide 22 second grade students access to the IXl mathematics program to reinforce mathematics concepts taught in the classroom and provide extra math practice for students.
Objective 1) At least 80% of students will utilize the IXL online program during the school year.
Objective 2) At least 70% of students will report the program helped to reinforce second grade mathematics concepts.
Success for this grant will be measured against grant objectives detailed above. Specifically the grant will be considered a success if 80% of Mrs. Highfill’s second grade class utilizes the program, and 70% of users report the program helped to reinforce second grade mathematics concepts. To note the IXL program allows parents and teachers to view and track individual progress/success by student (although this will not be reported to Excellence in Education).
Students will be offered access to the online IXL program beginning November 1, 2013. Students and parents will have the ability to utilize the online program to practice 218 mathematics skills at home, for a 1-year time period, until October 31, 2014.
A grant supporting the IXL program can serve to inform Mrs. Highfill’s PLC. By sharing students’ progress and success with the program with other teachers in the district, other teachers may find solutions or ideas about how to reinforce mathematics for Pre-K – 8 children.
