The objective of the grant is to provide additional, high quality materials to enhance the current Tahoe Lake science program. The use of these items will promote wonder and inquiry while providing hands-on experiences to our scholars. Integration into the language arts program will be accomplished with journal writing and reading.
The success of these items will be measured by the questions and activities generated by students as they use these materials.
The Carolina unit using K'NEX will allow the TK/K students to explore, design and build working objects while developing the basic engineering and physics knowledge outlined in the NGSS for kindergarteners. The engineering componet is new for the K curriculm and this unit will provide the foundation for the culminating kindergaren engineering project - building a shelter for the chicks hatched in each classroom.
The Next Time You See... book series by Emily Morgan are designed to awaken a sense of wonder in children. Each book is carefully researched, full of accurate scientific facts and contains beautiful, detailed photographs. The topics will show our students how enchanting nature can be. There are seven books: Seashell, Pill Bug, Sunset, Moon, Firefly, Spiderwebs and Maple Seed. Each book comes with teacher and student activities. They are especially designed to be experienced with an adult and one set of 7 is requested for the library. We are also requesting a set for each grade level to share.
Yes. The set of the Next Time You See books will be stored in a central location for school wide teacher use. The K'NEX materials will be shared by the TK/K teachers.
No other funding sources are available at this time.
