Description

For this grant, I am applying for funds to go towards purchasing diverse and inclusive literature for my Second Grade classroom at Glenshire Elementary. These types of books are essential for teaching Priority Common Core Standards, core values, and engaging lessons for the second grade. For example: kindness, inclusivity, diversity, and a safe place for all students. I also want to include literature that allows my students to interact with and learn about different cultures and identities while meeting their core educational standards.

These texts will be used throughout the course of the school year to accompany the many themes we learn about in Second Grade. For example: Read Across America, Cultural Celebrations, Biographies, Author's Spotlights, and Social Emotional Learning. Many of these books will also be used in alignment with our Common Core English Language Arts Standards. 

 

 

Benefits of Program

The texts will help students to increase their vocabulary and improve their genre writing, improving their overall writing skills and meeting and/or surpassing common core standards and district-wide targets. The books I will purchase with the grant funds include personal narrative mentor texts, diverse read alouds that feature stories outside the majority demographic of the classroom, updated Biographies, and Social Emotional Learning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Success of Program

This grant will help with continued support of a literature rich classroom that includes diverse texts and authors. It will encourage critical thinking while aligning with Common Core Standards in English Language Arts. 

Implementation

These texts will be used throughout the school year to enhance and engage the students throughout the many themes presented in the Second Grade. Themes stated in the description.

Yes, I plan to share these texts across my grade level as well as my school site. 

Sustainability
If granted these texts will be used throughout my Teaching Career. The texts will support my growing classroom library to be up to date, engaging, inclusive, and organized. These texts will be celebrated each year in my classroom as well as others.
