Description

I use a lot of different activities to keep the students engaged throughout the semester! The online activities/games (quizlet, gimkit and Kahoot) are a great way for the students to practice the material while also having fun and competing against their classmates. The "teacher/pro" version of these sites allows me to track their progress, assign activities as homework/for a sub, and gives me access to certain games I couldn't otherwise play.

I'm excited to try to present the grammar and vocabulary more in context next year by using Comprehensible Input (Voces story-telling, supplemental reading activities from TPT and a website called flangoo.com) so the students can see how the words they learn can help them understand a story or a conversation in Spanish.

Benefits of Program

All of my Spanish students (usually 3 classes of about 30, so 90 students) will benefit from this grant as it allows me to differentiate the activities within one class period. The online games help engage students who struggle to stay focused in class, flangoo.com offers reading choices so students can decide a level appropriate for them and select texts accordingly, and the voces comprehensible input will help me build my "storytelling" so audio-learners can hear the correct pronunciation and usage of the learned words and understand them in the context of a story.

Success of Program

I would define success by seeing improvement on the proficiency scales for my students, specifically in reading and listening comprehension. It enhances the classroom by empowering students to reflect on their own progress and decide when they are ready to move up a level. 

Implementation

I will build the material over the summer and implement the new practices on a weekly basis starting next fall, 2024. We'd focus on a different story from Voces every week, we'd do a different reading every Friday from flangoo.com, and we play games at least once a week to practice new vocabulary and grammar.

Sustainability
I would need to renew the subscriptions each year, but luckily the past two years THS has been able to fund the annual subscription so I actually haven't had to use the grant funds.
