The purpose of this grant is to purchase materials to support energy in science in the Yuba Room at Donner Trail. Specificiallly, this grant seeks to purchase four Snap Circuits: My Home Electronics kits and four Wind Turbine sets for students use independently and in small groups in science labs.
Teachers at Donner Trail are passionate about teaching science and supporting students experiencing what they are learning. Students’ interest and mastery of concepts and skills is enhanced through hands-on learning experiences. The tools purchased through this grant would directly put renewable energy models in the hands of students and electrical energy applications to their fingertips.
The success of the program will be measured by the students being able to demonstrate electrical and renewable energy knowledge and skills after being given the opportunity to read, write, build and apply about the subject.
These materials will be used in science labs and lessons. Students will use them to enhance what they read in science lessons and apply their skills to their writing. This will help them demonstrate a deeper level of understanding.
These materials were chosen to target the application of fourth grade science standards. If another teacher would want to use them to support their standards or sciece lesson, I would be happy to share.
