Culinary Arts (large protein labs)

Each year food costs rise, but our budgets remain fairly consistent based on student enrollment. As the years go on, it gets harder and harder to stay within budget and we have had to eliminate some of the more unique, large labs.  Some of the more exciting labs are the Christmas cookies project, chicken fabrication, squid breakdown, and the end-of-the-year BBQ. 

Benefits of Program

All students in Culinary participate in every lab.

Success of Program

These are the kind of experiences that kids remember forever and provide a deep level of learning and appreciation for food and nutrition.  The students love these labs, but they are expensive to put together.  Each student participates and each gains multiple competencies for their efforts.  

Implementation

The labs are completed throughout the year.  But labs of this level are always done December-May.
