This year is the first year of the music production course at North Tahoe High School and it has been challenging to create a curriculum for the class myself. I searched for curricula online and found nothing that would fit our needs. Then, this year, I ran into the creators of the Young Producers Group at the CASMEC conference in Sacramento, and it is the perfect fit for our program, using Ableton Live, a program that we have already purchased this year. The guys who created it are on the cutting edge of the scene and have worked hard to create this curriculum with instructional videos and tutorials for all lessons. It is amazing and will be a game-changer for this program.
Music Production 1 breaks down the key concepts of music production. We provide instructional demonstrations for using the digital audio workstation, Soundtrap (Mac, PC, Chromebook), along with engaging assignments, exercises, games, and more so teachers can seamlessly guide students in applying the theory.
Music Production 2 shows students how to use Ableton Live (Mac and PC), an industry-standard digital audio workstation used by music professionals in studios and on stages around the world. Building on the key concepts of music production covered in the previous level, this curriculum leads students through substantial projects covering high-level principles like sampling and synthesizers.
