Description

I would like to invite a local chef to come in and teach students how to cook a typical dish from their Spanish-speaking country (most likely, Mexico), in Spanish.

Benefits of Program

The presentation would reinforce the food vocabulary we study in Spanish 2 while incorporating real-life cooking experience and furthering their understanding of other cultures and traditions.

It would also help build community between the school/students and local businesses!

Success of Program

This experiential learning would be an incredibly memorable experience for students that could spark their enthusiasm for further culture studies and maybe even studying abroad.

Implementation

I would reach out to a local Mexican and El Salvadorian restaurants I know to see if they have any chefs who would be willing to come in and give a cooking demonstration. If not, I do have some friends who cook wonderful dishes from their native Mexico who may be willing to come in.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Absolutely!

Sustainability
We would ideally do this twice a year, once in the fall and then again in the spring, and my hope is that after we get it started, the restaurantes may be willing to sponsor the presentation in future years.
