Description

As a teacher new to TTUSD, I would like to enhance my classroom library, which has thus far been dependent on donations from parents and other staff members. I plan to use the grant to purchase new books for both my classroom library (primarily in Spanish), as well as bins to organize the books in my classroom library.

Benefits of Program

Encouraging a love of reading, providing students with new texts. Specifically encouraging biliteracy with high-interest texts in Spanish. Biographies/nonfiction can be used for a planned social studies research project, as well as having SEL benefits of having positive role models that reflect students' heritage.

Success of Program

Students will read for fun, especially in Spanish. It's hard to encourage kids to read in Spanish without high-interest texts, and biliteracy is a cornerstone of our program. Success will be measured in the number of books borrowed from the classroom library throughout the year.

Implementation

Classroom library books will be put out as soon as possible, and baskets included in the grant would be used to organize existing book series as well as new books, and maximize shelf space.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Yes. Students reading more benefits my grade level partner as well, since we share our students.

Sustainability
Students will be able to read these books for many years to come! :)
