I am requesting to purchase 10 tabletop games for students in my math classes. Each game can be played by up to 4 students at a time. The game can be played in rounds. If I allow for a quick warm-up round, it would take about 10 minutes max. Students can practice concepts of math and engineering while collaborating and making social, emotional connections. The game is hands on and requires critical thinking skills. Students are actively involved and not on a screen. I believe this to be a great activity for students to engage in, building critical thinking skills, and social skills.
I think students will learn to work together in groups and engage in fun play with a mathematical foundation.
Once I receive the game sets, I will have each group of four work together to play the game. Since a round can be completed in about 10 minutes or less, I plan on starting some days with this as a warm-up. Other days I will use it as an activity to build social emotional skills.
Yes, I plan on showing other teachers the games and they can decide if they want to use them in the future.
At this point, I have no other funding sources.
I believe this will be a great activity for my students at all grade levels. It will be something fun and something I hope they will look forward to participating in. Along with that, it is something I can use for years to come.
