I am teaching English at Truckee High School but I am transferring to full time Spanish teaching next year. I would like to establish a classroom library of level appropriate reader books for beginning Spanish students.
Reading in a second language is a complex cognitive task. Students need comprehensible input with skillfully created texts suitable for their level of language learning. All the known intellectual benefits of reading are magnified when the task shifts to reading in a second language.
Students will demonstrate improved reading comprehension skills through periodic reading assessments.
Students will create and fulfill individual reading goals throughout the course. Twenty minutes per class of reading time will be assigned and monitored 3-4 times a week. It is important that there is a variety of books to choose from so students own their decisions.
Yes. I would be happy to share books with the other two Spanish teachers at the school.
