Truckee High School is excited to announce a new course offering, Digital Photography!  With this new course offering comes a need for many supplies and photography equipment.  The main items of need to get the class started are the following:

1 class set for each student includes (16 X $1238.94 = $19823.04):

  1. Digital Cameras 
  2. Telephoto Lenses
  3. Camera Cases/bags
  4. Memory Cards
  5. Memory card readers
  6. Battery Chargers
  7. Batteries
  8. Repair Plan- 2 year

  9. Camera cleaning kits

     

    Not included in a set but still need:

  10. Tripods
  11. Light Stands
  12. Flashes
  13. Photo Printer
  14. Consumables: Print paper, ink cartridges, matte board
  15. Matte board cutter
  16. Macro Lenses
  17. Photoshop (subscription)
  18. Camera Storage (secure locking cabinet)

I found a nice package deal/set that includes one of items 1-8 listed above for $1238.94 (this includes a 2 year drop/spill warranty).  Truckee High School was planning on being able to provide half of a class set,16 sets ,(students could share) but I was hoping that Excellence in Education could help supply equipment for the rest of the students (another 16 sets).  

Benefits of Program

This will benefit Truckee High School students by giving students another option for electives and meeting the fine art requirement.  Currently, we only offer 2 fine arts classes per term and they are the most requested courses at Truckee High School.  Students will learn skills that can help them get a job following high school as a profession or as additional income/work for future endeavors.  

Success of Program

I believe this program will highly enrich students creative experience at Truckee High School.  Currently, there is only one art teacher at our school and the fine arts are consistently waitlisted  due to high demands for fine arts requirements for graduation and college.  

Implementation

The plan is to begin this course offering starting the 2026-2027 school year.  Currently, a student course request/interest was given to students for next year and 100+ students have requested photography.  

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

Currently, the classroom is equipped with 32 desktop computers and mac mini drives that are currently used for our yearbook class.  This will also improve our yearbook program and equipment needs. The cameras for yearbook are dated and not have been updated for quite some time.  We could potentially offer graphic design and digital media classes in the future as well.
