Description

For Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students, who are not yet decoding words or officially reading, non-fiction materials utilize professional photography to allow them to learn more about subjects studied in the classroom (e.g., weather, butterflies, chickens, farming, the seasons, etc.). We would like to enhance our classroom libraries with engaging literature that will expand upon our students' knowledge and further integrate them into the curriculum. We are requesting a collection of non-fiction books to be shared between the two TK classes.

Benefits of Program

This grant will establish a literature-rich environment where TK students can learn more about the concepts of print and significantly grow their vocabulary and literacy skills. These resources will allow for the implementation of science instruction leading students to learn more about their environment. The opportunities that non-fiction literature will bring into our classrooms via science topics will cultivate a foundational love for reading and literacy skills in our youngest learners.

Success of Program

The success of this grant will be demonstrated by the positive impact on our youngest learners, cultivating a sustained love for reading, fostering an appreciation for non-fiction literature, and significantly enhancing their intrinsic interest in learning.
