Rosetta Stone Online Subscription Langauge Program

TES currently has approximately 250 English Language Learners, of which the majority have non-english speaking parents. It should be noted that all of our ELL's students receive systematic and structured English Language Development (ELD) each day for a minimum of 30 minutes. Results have been more than favorable since we began this type of ELD via the Avenues Program 5 years ago. Having said that, we continue to enroll students, throughout the school year, that have little or no English upon enrolling in our district. At TES, we currently offer these students some one to one intervention, which would be enhanced by the Rosetta Stone Program. Other students wanting to learn or expand their language skills in languages other than English would also be able to utilize the program, bringing the total number of students being able to benefit from the grant to 660!

In short, we could enhance “everyones” learning by providing an after school Scholars Club/Parent English Development Class (using Rosetta Stone) as well as Parent Conversations to provide a forum for discussion of strategies that can be used at home for homework, behavior, alcohol/drug prevention, etc.. I have discussed and gotten commitment from other credentialed teachers, High School students and staff from our local Family Resource Center of Truckee (FRCoT), all of whom agree to volunteer their time to empower our families and community members. The ideology behind programs such as the Scholars Program could help students and parents by exposing them to additional English language vocabulary that is rich in visual and auditory content. We would also provide students with homework help as well as testing and academic strategies and overall life skills and mentoring. The component that we need to further reinforce this after school program would be the Rosetta Stone Online program. The program could ALSO be used by other TES academic support groups which operate throughout the year.

During the school day, intervention and remediation occurs during Response to Intervention (RTI) time. The Rosetta Stone Program could compliment this existing TRI time by allowing students to remain in their classrooms during the intervention or remediation. In that this program is internet based it can be accessed on any of our school computers or i-Pads. This can also be considered another manner in which to integrate technology into our classrooms. As teachers utilize this program it encourages personalized learning for students and gives the teacher more time to spend teaching; taking students further in their learning in small groups. This program provides a dynamic learning environment for our diverse student body.

Every year we offer Enrichment classes after school through our PTO. What better way to get more folks involved than to offer language classes with the Rosetta Stone Program. You name it, English German, Italian, French, Spanish, etc., the possibilities are endless! Even our teachers that want to increase their language skills to communicate better with our parents could be served by this phenomenal program.
