Description

AP Spanish Language Class at Truckee High School is growing. We hope to be able to offer this class on a yearly basis rather than every other year. This class prepares students to take the Spanish Language and Culture Advanced Placement Exam each May. This particular year, 2014, students will be expected to adhere to a new exam with exciting and visionary themes. Our class will be focusing on not only preparing students for successful outcomes if they choose to take the AP exam, but also advancing their Spanish language abilities ultimately allowing them to become positive bilingual contributors in the ever growing global society we live in.

Success of Program

Regular academic assessments, be they written, informal or formal oral, listening or auditory will be an ongoing method of measuring students success. Ultimately the final points received on the AP Spanish Language Exam every spring corrected by the College Board will be one ofthe most important factors in measuring the success of this program.

Implementation

The AP Spanish Language and Culture test prep workbook will be used on a daily basis both in and out of class. High-quality authentic print and audio sources will complement the program content allowing students to have more real life language experiences. Additionally, both audio and video chat will be accessible and used frequently by students via the text and workbook. This is a new and exciting way of continuing the language learning outside of the classroom. Finally, this workbook will give students the exact feel of the AP exam, building familiarity and much confidence.

Can you share this grant with your grade level or subject team?

As acting Department Head of the Foreign Language Department at Truckee High sChool it is clear that the advanced levels of Spanish Language and Culture need to move in a direction of using up to date materials. The first step in this process is using the Vista Higher Learning AP materials, both text and workbook. Vista Higher learning not only is supremely prepared for the new AP exam but they are also extremely well versed in the relationship between foreign languages and the Common Core Standards to which our district is working.
