Description
- All 9th graders read the same book- The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba
- To show students an example of real-life learning
- To create a dialog about a core question: What does it take to be sucessful?
Success of Program
This sucess of this grant will be measured by:
- student participation in the reading of the book
- student participation in activities and discussion
- survey of participants
Implementation
Students will:
- Read the book in Pathways
- Watch William's Ted Talks
- Discuss the concept of success-- what do sucessful people do? How do they think? What made this windmill a sucess?
- Watch the movie: Moving Windmills (http://www.movingwindmills.org/documentary)
- Participation in cross-curricular activities aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, California State Standards to support literacy, inquiry, curiosity and grit.
